DyeStat preseason picks to qualify for NXN: Downers Grove North IL Carmel IN
Current Prediction: Downers Grove North IL Carmel IN
Notes: The Midwest has received an at-large bid to NXN seven of the past eight years, including each of the last two. Coming into the season there were two obvious regional front runners, Downers Grove North IL and Carmel IN. Those two teams remain at the top, but an old favorite has emerged as a contender: Neuqua Valley. The preseason No. 4 regional team and national No. 24 has risen to the third regional spot and 22nd in the nation. With the quick rebuilding of Neuqua Valley as a solid third team in the region, the Midwest is a bubble region to secure one of the four at-large bids to NXN. Hudson OH is a possible longshot to contend and Wheaton Warrenville South IL, Glenbard West IL or Ann Arbor Pioneer MI could sneak in on a great day.

DyeStat preseason picks to qualify for NXN: Naperville North IL Carmel IN
Current Prediction: Naperville North IL Yorkville IL
Notes: Carmel IN could see its seven-year streak of qualifying for nationals come to an end. The Greyhounds finished third at the Indiana state meet. Naperville North IL is well positioned to tie Carmel for most NXN appearances out of the Midwest, although the Huskies will need to qualify this year and next year to match the streak of seven. Naperville North appears to be the class of the Midwest this year, sitting at No. 3 nationally. Yorkville IL has made steady progress throughout the season and is trending toward the second automatic NXN spot. It is possible another team could challenge, but the task will be difficult. While it is possible the Midwest could earn an at-large bid this year, it is unlikely there will be a repeat of 2015 when the Midwest sent four teams to NXN, including the first Michigan team to ever compete in Portland, Northville. |
